Hand acne/rash

Billslakelane posted:
I get bumps on the inside of my hands that look like a acne whitehead. They shrink and turn a reddish brown after a few days. Then the skin around them dies an peels off. They aren't itchy or painful, but they keep coming back and I'm losing a lot of skin - particularly on my thumbs. Anyone have a clue about this?

Mohiba K Tareen, MD responded:
Dear Reader,

These recurrent bumps- commonly white then turning reddish-brown- are most likely a form of eczema called dyshidrotic eczema .

After the bumps occur, the skin peels and may be itchy or painful.

This condition requires management by a dermatologist because we employ potent prescription strength topical steroids for the treatment typically. Other options include light therapy and vitamin D prescription topicals.

You may also need patch testing (a type of allergy testing) to determine the cause.

I hope that helps
