Anal Rash

This is embarrassing - but my husband won't go to a dr. for this. He has a rash in, for lack of a better word, his butt crack - all the way up and down. His cheeks seem to be stuck together - there is no open space between them (hard to describe). He thinks it's from sweat. He had been using a diaper rash ointment, but lately it does not seem to be working. The last couple of days he's tried a medicated body powder, at my suggestion - it occurred to me that he needed something to dry it out. Yesterday it was so bad, burning and red - almost unbearable, I had to coat him with it.

I saw a thread on this - people have suggested toilet wipes, cleansing with soap and water when having a BM, antibiotic ointment, etc.

Are there any other treatments that may work? What could be the cause? Is there a way to prevent it?

Dear An,
You should really take your husband (by force if necessary- that is the only way I can ever get my husband to the doctor!) to the dermatologist.

From what you are describing, this may be psoriasis, eczema, a fungal or a bacterial infection (or even eczema with a secondary bacterial infection etc).

I do not want to suggest anything because it really sounds like your husband needs prescriptions. Over-the-counter medicines will only treat the problem partially.

I hope that helps

Thank you. I can only try to persuade him. Although the other day when it was extremely painful, he probably would've agreed to go to the ER. Thank you!
