I wake during the night scratching my scalp to the point it becomes painful. There is no rash, bumps or lice. This has been going on for several months and is to the point I think I am going to lose my mind. I have no other unexplained spots on my body that itch. I need help figuring this one out please.

Dear An,

Itching of this severity and duration should definitely be evaluated by a dermatologist. There may be evidence of eczema, psoriasis, or nerve dysfunction on exam (or biopsy, if your doc thinks that is necessary). You do not have to live with the problem- a board certified dermatologist can help treat/ solve the issue
