Pimple like bumps on my kids' bodies
billysaw posted:
my kids have developed some persistent bumps on their bodies. They look like pimples but they have a little hardness and look dry. They say they itch and are painful to the touch. My youngest son (7yrs) was the first to get one on his lower back almost a year ago. We thought it was just some pimple and it would go away. This last three months, his older brother (9yrs) suddenly got a break out of the same all over his face. There's like two big ones and several tiny ones. He doesnt have them anywere else. I took them to the clinic and doctor said they would go away. Now the younger one has like five of more show up suddenly all over his back. The original pimple is also still there.

Any ideas?
Mohiba K Tareen, MD responded:
Dear Billysaw

Given the age group, and that they are contagious, it sounds as if you may be describing molluscum contagiousum- a viral condition that many children get.

It is not dangerous, but indeed if they are spreading, it would be a good idea to take the kids to the dermatologist for treatment.

I hope that helps
