    Exciting News for WebMD Members!

We've been busy behind the scenes building new message boards for you. You'll have new and easier ways to find messages, connect with others, and share your stories.

And, this will all be available on your smartphone or other mobile device!

What Do You Need to Do?

The message board you're used to will be closing in the coming weeks. While many of your boards will be making the move to our new home, your posts will not. Want to keep a discussion going? Save posts you want to continue (this includes your member profile story), so that you can re-post them in the new message boards.

Keep an eye here and on your email inbox, we'll be back in touch soon to give you all the information you need!

Allergy like spots around the surgical area

    ekenah posted:
My husband had open surgery on his ankle when he broke it. After the surgery we notice red spots by the surgical area and my husband says sometimes they are itchy. I put some topical ointment but they keep appearing. I tell my husband to go back to the surgeon and ask about it as I suspect that they may have left some piece of surgical materials inside that is causing the allergy like spots in the the surgical area.

This rash may represent several things: inflammation brought on by the surgery, irritation/ allergy if an implant was used, or as you are concerned about, a foreign body reaction. I would suggest seeing your surgeon for advice and perhaps even asking the surgeon if he/she thinks a dermatologist may be able to help.

Good luck to you and your husband
