Dry, flaky bumps on skin near knuckles (pictures)

I have dry, flaky bumps near my knuckles of my left hand (middle finger and pinky). These cropped up a few years ago, seemingly after I slammed my fingers in a door (I do not believe there is causation, however).

These spots flake are dried and cracked, but cause no pain or inflame. I have filed with an emery board but to no avail. If I pinch my skin, they are only skin deep. but feel like a bump. Other than being unsightly, they are seemingly benign.

Does anyone have an idea what is causing this abnormality?
