Dear Princesa88,

Welcome! Here is some information on Parasomnias that may be helpful to you. In case you hadn't heard the word used before, Parsomnias "are disruptive sleep-related disorders that can occur during arousals from REM sleep or partial arousals from Non-REM sleep. Parasomnias include nightmares, night terrors, sleepwalking, confusional arousals and many others."

I would definitely recommend talking this over with a sleep disorders expert. Look for one who is open to holistic and/or complementary medical approaches. Asking the doctor's office staff if she or he uses other approaches may be helpful. You may also be interested in this article on Cognitive Behavoral Treatments for Sleep Disorders , too.

Best wishes for better sleep,

Byroney

Thank you very much for your response. I will read the article and make my boyfriend go see a sleep specialist. I used to sleep walk when I was a kid and my father led me to the tub and turned on the water and it cured me, I haven't done that since then. I've heard that, that's not a good idea though.

dear byroney,
I am 24 years old and I fit the profile of a parasomnia but have never been formally diagnosed. The only difference is that at one point in time I had been acting out my violent nightmares and waking up with scratches, bruises, and cuts all over my body. I can never remember how I got them.
