    Exciting News for WebMD Members!

We've been busy behind the scenes building new message boards for you. You'll have new and easier ways to find messages, connect with others, and share your stories.

And, this will all be available on your smartphone or other mobile device!

What Do You Need to Do?

The message board you're used to will be closing in the coming weeks. While many of your boards will be making the move to our new home, your posts will not. Want to keep a discussion going? Save posts you want to continue (this includes your member profile story), so that you can re-post them in the new message boards.

Keep an eye here and on your email inbox, we'll be back in touch soon to give you all the information you need!

My jaw snaps shut the instant I fall asleep.

Does anyone know what this could be? As soon as i fall asleep, but only if im on my back, my jaw pops shut really fast, clicking my top and bottom incisors together so suddenly and hard that i wake right back up immediately. Its been going on for so long that ive had a couple of enamel chips. I wear invisalign retainers now, so it softens the tap of my teeth, but for my whole life before retainers it was really an annoyance that kind of taught me to sleep on my side. I was at my sleep specialist's /neurologist's today and asked him about this and he was stumped too. He'd never heard oh anyone else with this odd muscle jerk type reaction, but would love to know if anyone else has experienced it. It's been ruining every nap I've ever had and a lot of night's sleep for many years. Thanks everyone and sleep tight:)

You are not the only person having this problem. I have this same problem and I have talked to many people who have this same problem. I don't know what causes it but the sides of my mouth and tongue stay sore from my jaws snapping shut.
