    Please help me I need help getting up It is so bad

    I have a serious problem. My problem is waking up in the morning. I just turned 30 and it seems to have been getting progressively worse over the past few years. I don't wake up easily at all. Here are my problems/feelings:

    1. I feel miserable when I wake up. Super groggy, tired, etc. I stopped using an alarm clock a long time ago because I just turn it off and stay in bed. My wife and kids are always up before me and I always wait until the last few moments before she needs to go to school. Then I get up and rush to get ready and take her to school then off to work for me. I wake up around 8:45 and leave with my daughter at 9:00am. My wife and I go to bed usually between 11 and 12pm so even getting up at 7:30 I am getting enough rest.

    2. When I first wake up I have bad stomach indigestion/back aches. I often feel like I have to go to the bathroom in the morning but I don't actually go if I try. My lower back hurts like something has been pressing on it. We have a nice comforter and memory foam as well. After being up for about 20-30 mins the problems go away.

    3. I have really bad allergies and thought that might have been a problem. I went to an allergist and have been put on medication and I don't have signs of allergies anymore yet still the sleeping problem exists.

    4. I've thought maybe I have IBS but am not sure? I am 5 ft 8" and weigh 170. All around I feel healthy. I try to be active. I try to exercise when I can although I do not have a regular exercise schedule.

    5. We eat fairly healthy. We stay away from fast foods. minimal chips/candy/pops. I do like to drink regularly. I usually have 2-3 beers or wine or drinks per night or at functions (dinner with family) and that is probably 5-6 times per week.

    I really need help/advice. It's to the point where I am starting to affect my job and my family and I cannot continue this way. Should I be trying remedies? Supplements? Sleep aids? What? I am at a loss and need help.

    I'm sure you're not alone in any of these issues (which may or may not be related so be sure to continue pursuing answers with your doctor) and I look forward to hearing from others on this.

    In the meantime, I wanted to welcome you here to WebMD.

    Have you considered trying to go without any alcohol for a week or a month to see if that changes how you feel in the mornings? Experimenting can often help you find answers.

    Thank you for the kind welcome.

    I stopped drinking on January 4th and went 100 days without drinking. There were no changes in my sleep.

    Dang. Sorry that didn't help at all.

    I have similar problems and have had to try a lot of various approaches through trial and error. But what works for me may not be the same as for you, which is why I hope others offer some suggestions once they have a chance to look in.

    I too have suffered from debilitating grogginess in the morning - and it gets worse as I age. And I too have gone with and without 2 or 3 alcoholic drinks at night for extended periods of time - no difference.

    I've tried sleep aids - good for short term fix only. And they did get me through a rough period.

    Often I feel so tired I have to take a nap even though I "slept" 7 to 10 hrs. It's affected everything in my life.

    I also snore and finally paid to have a sleep test; but I slept so lightly I strongly feel the test did not make a correct diagnosis - mild sleep apnea.

    Deep sleep seems impossible without waking up in a "drugged" state. I feel far more alert if I sleep lightly for 4 to 6 hr., with plans for one "day" of deep sleeping ea. wk. This means I keep the TV on low and sleep on the couch. BUT I feel more alert in the mornings. Trick is, can't do that more than 2 wks or I get raging headaches.

    I wish I had more help to offer. But you are not alone.

    We are all different as to how much sleep we need. you say going to bed at 11 and 12 getting up at 7:30 is enough, but that's only about 8.5 or 7.5 hours a night, not enough maybe. I need 10. Try going to bed at 9 or 10 pm. See your doctor about that bowel problem and your sleep. you may also have sleep apnea which can totally ruin your health if not treated. Have your thyroid and b12 checked.

    There seems to be a strong link between IBS and sleep disorders. The fact that you consume a fair amount of alcohol has a huge contribution to your problems, as it has a significant role in both sleep and IBS. Sleeping the right amount of hours does not mean that you are getting enough rest.

    Questions: Do you snore at night? Does your partner say that you stop breathing at night? Are you tired during the day?

    Suggestions: Cut out consumption of alcohol. Sleeping tablets tend to make symptoms worse.
    See a sleep specialist to rule out sleep apnoea.
    Search the internet for sleep disorders and IBS. You may be able to identify a lot of your problems.

    You should be treated for sleep apnea, even if it is mild , as you are symptomatic. See if you can have a titration with a CPAP machine to estimate the amount of pressure needed to keep your airway open. A pressure of 6kPa or higher, will support the diagnosis of sleep apnoea.

    Try sleeping on your sides, as sleeping on your back makes sleep apnea worse. It causes your tongue to fall back and close the already narrow airway.
