FEARS QUITTING SMOKING BECAUSE OF WEIGHT LOSS

I want so much to quit smoking, but I fear I will gain weight. I quit once for 10 years and gained a bunch of weight. I need to really quit because I have heart disease, and my cardiologist last time I saw him begged me to quit. This may sound stupid but I've always thought that cigarettes were my friend, how ridiculous can this be but that's the way it is with me. I have tried in the past couple of years to cut down, which I did, I went from a pack a day to 10 cigarettes a day. But recently I was diagnosed with a thyroid problem and now I'm back to smoking like a chimney. When I quit last time for 10 years, also I experienced nausea for the first couple of years, but maybe the reason for this is because I was eating like a pig. I really need encouragement as I live alone. Helpppppp!!!!

I am 49 yrs old. That was one of my reasons also. My sister (51yrs old @ the time) quit after a stroke. She gained alot of weight also and I really didn't want to. After several episodes of bronchitis and sinus infections and circulatory problems with my legs, along with high blood pressure and heart disease, I asked my cardiologist for Chantix. Did the 1st 30 days and was still smoking. Then I saw a commercial on tv where they showed people who had lost their legs and finger tips from smoking. That did it. It has been 9 days w/ Chantix. It has been difficult @ times. Like you, cigarettes were my friend. Bored, light a cig, after a meal, light a cig, talk on the phone, light a cig. But I'm trying. I am eating alot but I was doing that before. Determined to cut back n eating and exercise and stay occupied. Good Luck!
