    Closet smoker

I'm 43, very active and physically fit. I run, go to aerobics, workout at the gym and hike every weekend. I've been a closet smoker since I was 16. No one knows that I smoked. I loved smoking and I totally rationalized my smoking by convincing myself that all the good stuff I did would cancel out the few cigarettes I smoked. But this weekend was a life changer. A fellow hiker actually had a massive heart attack on the trail and literally dropped dead at my feet. I have never been so rattled by anything in my life. I've never seen someone die before. I have always wanted to quit but now I know that I must quit. It's been 3 days since my last cigarette but I am having some serious cravings. I'm hoping they go away quickly.

    Hi Deb,

Oh my gosh what an experience and I am so sorry about the loss of your friend.
You know doing all you are doing to take care of your body by exercising and watching what you eat, smoking negates those benefits.
Quitting is the BEST thing you can do for your body, out of all of it!
The cravings last a while I hate to say, but they do lessen, that much I can tell you! They get shorter and come less. You need to push past it. Please check in with us, I hope you are doing well!

Thank you Chris. It's been one week today and I have had 2 cigarettes. Not bad. I'm trying not to be too hard on myself for having two. It's been a tough week, The cravings are not as bad as I thouht they would be. Thank you for your kind words.

Keep up the spirit and get going.. :-)

Do share your experience. Getting support from people who have walked in your shoes will definitely be a good motivation to any method you are already trying...

    All the best!
