4th metacarpal fracture

My daughter is a competitive gymnast and has a nondisplaced fracture of her 4th metacarpal. She was in a cast for 4 weeks and it is still not healed she was placed in a splint and told to return in 4 weeks. Is this normal amount of time and if we returned in 2 to have it looked at again would that be fine. The sooner she can get back to her workouts using her hand the better.
