Pain in gluteal and hamstring muscles

For several months I have experienced throbbing, sometimes burning pain the near the attachments of the gluteal and hamstring muscles. Standing up from a seated position causes me a great deal of pain and I can't weight the leg until I have been up and moving around. Sometimes the pain is burning and radiates to the IT band, hip flexors, and down the calf.

I have seen an orthopedist, or rather his P.A. After palpating briefly I was told I just had minor strain or pull and that it would heal on it's own in a few weeks. That was 3 months ago. No improvement, in fact getting a little worse.

I exercise daily and am quite physically active. I have strained and pulled each of my hamstrinigs severely in the last 15 years or so.However I don't recall any recent sports or activity related injury.
