my son has been training for bootcamp by running the track at the local high school. he has been experiencing pain around the base of his leg betweeen the shinand ankle, and traveling up the front of his shin. does anyone have any input as to what this could be and how to treat it.

sounds like shin splints... if it hasn't gotten better then have him stop unless he already has
Ice
Rest
and then working out that muscle group... Minimal shoes are my best suggestion... they force you to work out your shin's and calves and prevent pain in longer or more intense runs
