    IT Band Issues and Running

I developed issues with my IT band about five years ago. It started during a long mountain run and then I started to notice pain on short runs. I eventually stopped running for almost a year and focused on cardio classes at the gym and weight lifting. Over the last few years the pain in my hip and knee flares up from time to time, and I have never been able to run more than 4 or 5 miles at a time. I've tried stretching, chiropractor, massage therapy and cortisone shot, but I can't seem to get it to go away for good. Any other ideas?
