Taping vs Brace for ankle sparin/fracture

I have an ankle sparin and fractured talus. It's been 6 months since the injury. I am wearing a brace most of the time as prescribed by my orthopedist. I am wondering if taping my ankle would be as strong as wearing the brace?

David Berkoff, MD responded:

Neither is perfect. Taping gives a little better stability in the first few minutes but then gets stretched out. Lace up braces are not as tight but do not give as much over time. For most recreational athletes lace up braces are more than adequate in conjunction with a proper rehab program.
