Overcoming Muscle soreness

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone can help me overcome some muscle soreness. After working out on my own...(not successful at achieving goals) I decided to work with a personal trainer. I soon realized...that I really had never had an intense workout quite like the one I was getting. I was immediately sore in my hamstrings. However, no tylenol, or Aleve could have prepared me for what was around the corner the next day or the day after that. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for overcoming this soreness. I am terrified when I go down steps that my legs will buckle on me. I am trying really hard to "suck it up" and try to work out some more...but the pain prevents me from doing anything harder than walking at this point.

Thanks

Blake Boggess, DO responded:
The soreness is associated with the workouts that you are doing. As you mention, many times the soreness does not peak until 24 - 48 hours after your workout. You probably over did it the workout with the trainer. The soreness with decrease as you train more. It is a natural response be sore because of the tissue break down and lactic acid build up. However, if the soreness persist, you should probably be evaluated by your physician.
