My 83year old mom had a massive left hemisphere stroke last month. Thank God she is responding much better than the doctors had predicted. She still has a trach collar but is breathing on her own. She Is able to write responses and nods her head for yes and no, and her memory seems good. She recognizes friends and family. There seems to be a slight return of sensation on her right side. She is mouthing Words. She is being seated in a chair daily. But she still spends the vast majority of her time sleeping. Is this normal? How long should this continue? Based on her current, Amazing and unpredicted recovery we are optimistic for a full recovery of communicative skills.what do you think?
