What happens to the appearance of a pill when left in the heat?

I had a prescription that kept disapearing, and I'm not quite sure which person it was, but I left my prescription out in my car and the next day, instead of ten pills left, there were only three. Now the pill was yellow with an inprint, and when I found out the pills were missing, the remaining three were brown with no inprint. Was it the heat, or had they been replaced with a different pill?
