Alcholic sister coming to visit
shjones99 posted:
My sister is an off-again/on-again recovering alcoholic. She's been in rehab twice in the past 5 years. Her latest hospital detox was Nov/Dec of last year. She's coming for a 2-month visit to take care of a number of health issues, including her alcoholism. My husband and I have liquor in the house (mostly wine, but some hard liquor). We don't know whether or not we should hide it. We've gotten conflicting advice about this. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Johanna O'Flaherty, PhD responded:
Your sister is in early recovery and therefore very vulnerable; I would suggest that all liquor be removed from your home while she is visiting.

Also, it's a good idea for you and your husband to attend Al-Anon , since your lives are being affected by someone else's drinking. This organization can be very helpful.
