Hi,

One year ago I was diagnosed with DVT. Doctors found two clots in my left leg, one in my pelvic area and one behind my knee. I had a greenfield filter inserted into my pelvis and a stent placed on the back of my leg. I was immediately placed on anticoagulants. I'm a 22 year old female, non-smoker, non-drinker, I weigh 139 pounds and I'm 5'8''. Doctors said they did not understand why I got the clots. I was on birth control at the time of the diagnosis, and had also recently taken a 4 hour car trip. Do I have a clotting disorder? I don't have medical insurance and haven't been able to return to get the filter removed. I stopped taking Coumadin a long time ago because I didn't want to risk a pregnancy (since I stopped using birth control once and for all). My leg still gets swollen at times and I haven't been able to enjoy my life the way I used to. Has anyone else been through this?

I had my first DVT when I was 17 and started taking the pill - the pill can cause a clotting in otherwise healthy people. I have been found to be borderline Protein C deficient (one of the blood clotting proteins). You should really go in for a follow up with your doctor - they have discussed putting filters in me but always decide against it because a filter actually gives the blood something to clot around. I hope you're doing okay.

OMG you should def go back. This is so dangerous, your filter can become clogged and not work anymore. Mine did, I had it replaced last week after 2 months. My story is similar and I do have 2 clotting disorders. Lupus Anticoagulant and MTHFR. You should def get checked out, set up a payment plan, your health is first! Also check out our group:
