Hi everyone,
I am a 28 year old female. I've always had weird symptoms throughout my life but things seem to be getting worse lately and I'd love some feedback from people who have thyroid problems so I can get a gauge as to how likely it is that I have one. I am currently waiting to get an appointment with an endo, so I'll be getting a professional opinion too, I'm just curious. The thing that's confusing me is that the symptoms for so many disorders seem to be the same-- I don't know if its an issue with my reproductive hormones, thyroid, or something completely different. Or if I've got a number of different things going on at once.
In any case- here are my symptoms, I know it's a long list-- and lots of these things have been going on for a while. I just attributed lots of them to having an anxiety problem and being an emotional, hormonal female-- but now I'm thinking it's something else-- tell me what you think:
-Night sweats
-Sweating while cold
-Intolerance to heat
-I can't hold my hands still (as in, if I hold them out and try to keep them still, they shake)
-Getting my period every two weeks for the past few months.
-My breasts recently went up a size in the past few months also, but I've gained no weight elsewhere.
-Severe PMS (maybe bad enough to be PMDD? But this has been a problem for years) and terrible, painful periods.
-Heart palpitations, randomly. I can just be sitting at the computer getting work done and my heart starts pounding insanely.
-Shortness of breath- usually accompanies the palpitations.
-Bouts of nausea for no apparent reason.
-Pains in my neck
-Swollen glands
-Random bouts of numbness in my arms and legs.
-I am often agitated or insanely emotional without any cause.
-Muscle soreness-- always. But different muscles. Lately it's the palms of my hands that have been sore. I have no idea why, it's very odd.
-I also go through periods where my hands are so achy that I can barely write.
-My memory has gotten very foggy lately-- I am a grad student, so this is very bad.
-Sometimes I just glaze over. I feel like I am in a cloud. It's like my brain just shuts off. Others notice it and ask what's wrong with me.
-Inability to concentrate.
-Ridges in my fingernails, and they're very brittle (didn't know that could be a sign of something bad until I read it somewhere recently).
-Headaches.
-Sometimes I am so weak I feel like I can barely move or keep my head up-- other times I have inexhaustible amounts of energy.
-Also, random seizure-like or migraine-like episodes when I get my period-- my vision will go out and I collapse and shake with excruciating pains in my stomach.
Any thoughts, suggestions, or people with similar symptoms out there? I have been going to doctors for years trying to explain these things to them and they brush it off as me just going through some hormonal change-- but, it's been YEARS that most of these things have been happening, so I honestly can't believe this is normal at all. I do realize that separately some of these symptoms and signs seem just average, but together they've got to point to some bigger problem.
Thanks
-C
