    ovulating; bleeding after sex

Warning TMI: Ok, I'm trying not to freak out a little bit here. We are on month 7 of TTC and yesterday for the first time ever I got a big smiley face on my OPK!!!! I was so excited, and we rushed home from work to BD. We BD'ed yesterday afternoon and I woke him up again this a.m. to BD again ....afterward I had some bleeding--seemed like there was a lot of it, but it could have just been "leftovers" mixed with a little bit of blood which made it look like a lot. Then after about an hour of laying there in bed, I got up to pee and there was more, this time bright red. Like first day of period bleeding. I showered, got dressed, and haven't had anything since. I'm wondering if it could be ovulation bleeding??? I also read in TCOYF that when estrogen drops right before ovulation, you can bleed a little bit before the progesterone takes over. I've just never bled/spotted like this during O before. There have been a couple of times when I've had a tiny bit of pink or light brown during O, but nothing like this. What do you all think??? Has anyone experienced this before??? And I never bleed during sex either-- it seriously looked like what you might see if you have sex toward the end of your period. Arg.....trying not to freak out but don't want to call my dr. because they'll probably think I'm panicking over nothing. Any suggestions???

    Hi Annie,

If the blood was bright and then turned dark it is possible that you got a tiny cut during sex, it can happen, and then it healed. I wouldn't worry to much about it at this point, that's what it sounds like to me.

A lot of things can cause bleeding both during ovulation and after intercourse.
-Changes in hormone levels can cause light to moderate spotting.
-The ovaries can form a cyst that ruptures during, or just after, ovulation and help produce progesterone for use during fertilization and implantation. When the cyst ruptures it can cause some bleeding.
-The cervix is softer during ovulation and blood flow is increased. It's possible your husband just bumped your cervix and irritated it causing a small blood vessel to rupture.

NEVER EVER feel stupid asking your Doctor questions. That's what they are there for. My OB/GYN's office has a nurse working the phone lines specifically for that purpose. He would RATHER I ask 10000 things and it be nothing than for me NOT to ask 1 important question and end up with a major problem. Believe me...there is nothing you will ever ask that they haven't heard! Just call. You'll feel so much better.
