Love/Hate relationship with Metformin

I just wanted to say that I have a Love/Hate relationship with Metformin. I've been on it since August 2010, I LOVE that it's helping me lose weight, makes my period regular (between 27-30 days), and making me ovulate! I HATE the side effects, the nausea, the diarrhea, the feeling in my stomach like somebody punched me in the intestines! My RE just increased me from 500 mg to 1,000 mg, he wants to get me up to 2,000 daily before he starts me on Clomid. Ladies, don't give up, the daily battle against PCOS is awful, its very difficult for me emotionally, mentally, and physically, but I hope to update soon with a BFP!!!

I'm so happy Metformin has really worked wonders for you. I so wish it would help me to ovulate and have regular periods, and if I could lose some lbs that would be an added bonus. I think I could be more understanding of the side effects, if that was the case. The diarrhea is terrible and sometimes can be brutal. I don't have the nausea anymore. That went away after the first month or so. One symptom you mentioned has really caught my attention. Could you describe in more detail the feeling like someone has punched you? I haven't had that, but not that you mentioned it I have had a strange feeling for a few weeks, but didn't even think it could be related to the Metformin. I started taking Metformin in May of last year. I wouldn't just now develop another side effect, would I? It feels like my lower abdomen is sore. Like I have done a million sit ups. Could that be similar to what you are describing?

Yep, my lower abdomen is very sore, like I've done sit ups! I think it's from the diarrhea that I have been having from the increase of Met from 500 to 1,000. But yes I have had that a lot since starting Met!

I'm just freaking out-afraid it could be something far worse.

Wow. Well, the only side effect I have had was some nausea at the beginning. I have been on Met for about 4 months now. I am only on 1000mg though. It hasn't helped me lose weight and nothing else. Only good thing was I actually got my period on my own last month for the first time in years and my blood sugar hasn't crashed like usual. I have always had that issue. My blood sugar will just randomly crash, but it hasn't really done that since I have been on the Met.

PFM (if I can call you that...it is shorter!) I think the soreness is probably the tummy issues. If it was something bad I'm sure you would know. I have read that a lot of women have a sore tummy and it is due to the diarreah.

Thanks! I really hope that is it. The soreness has gotten better in the last week and I haven't had any diarrhea. So, maybe that was what it was. I'm glad Met is helping with your sugar and hopefully with your cycles. I just wish it would work some magic for all of us and we could get our BFPs!

Well, it helped with 1 cycle. If AF isn't here in 1 week then I am officially 2 weeks late....again. So it will be the same thing...go in, blood test, provera for 10 days, call when I start...blah blah blah.

I hope it starts to work for you. My doc said he likes toi give it 6 months before it should really start to work. Who knows.
