Hi everyone! I have a 21 month old daughter and now I'm expecting twins! I am only 10 weeks along, so still stuck in the first trimester and miserable. I had awful morning (all day) sickness with my daughter and it has been twice as bad with the twins. The 1st tri is crawling along and can't wait to be done with it!

Still a little freaked out about having twins - my husband and I were planning to stop at two kids, so we're trying to get used to the idea of three. We don't have any other sets of twins in either family ever and didn't use any fertility assistance so we never considered in a million years this would happen. I'm starting to get a little excited about it, though, and am hoping for a boy and a girl. I'm looking forward to my next doc visit to make sure everything and everyone is still doing well. I wish I could have an ultrasound each time just to get visual confirmation. When they just do a heartbeat check, how are they sure that there's two and not just hearing the same one twice?

Anyway, I had a healthy pregnancy with my first and hope this one continues that way. I am so nervous about any complications or the possibility of a c-section. Also, even though I've been so sick I've been eating a lot (very hungry and helps curb nausea). I think I've already gained a few pounds and I really want to keep that under control. How has your weight gain been so far?

Congratulations and welcome! I recall the first trimester being pretty lousy - even though my symptoms were pretty mild and only slight nausea in lieu of m/s. After the first trimester, the second seems to fly by! Speaking of, I'll be moving up to third trimester here soon (23w1d).

It took DH and I a little while to get used to the idea of twins, since it also doesn't run in either of our families and we had no fertility assistance. We wanted a boy and a girl, but are thrilled to know we so far have two healthy girls growing. U/S's are so exciting! I would freak out right before every visit and then everything would turn out fine and I'd be good for another month before stressing something was wrong. We ended up getting quite a few ultrasounds because every time they couldn't verify both babies' heartbeats, they would confirm with an U/S. The way they check for both heartbeats is by positioning the sonar device over each fetus. You can't really pick up one baby's H/B unless it is directly over it, and the twins are usually positioned in such a way that you can get distinct H/Bs. Also, for our girls, they each have different heartrates - like I said, if they can't hear one or both, they will likely do another U/S.

My weight gain so far is probably about 7-10 pounds. Most of that is recent because I started eating sweets again. Early in the pregnancy, I wanted nothing to do with sweets and I avoided them, ended up losing a few pounds. Last time I was at a doctor's office, they said I was about 5 pounds over what I started at - not bad considering I was 21 weeks along with twins (granted, I'm overweight as it is and don't need to be gaining a lot).

I hope you feel better soon! M/S is no fun!

imreddy,
thanks for sharing your story. You too gigi. It is fun reading them. I am seeing a fertility doc and hoping I will join you as a preggo of twins. The twins I had before were natural, so these might be assisted - obviously, but we also have twins in the family and I am an identical twin. My kind are random.
I will pray you both have healthy pregnancies and manage the symptoms. Thanks for sharing. I am responding well to the meds and praying. My sons are 11 and 7 and pray for identical twin sisters everyday.

Are your twins identical or fraternal?

I am also expecting twins Sept. 12th and have a 29 month old son!! The first trimester was horrible for me also.........I was so sick and tired all day every day. Not to burst your bubble, but I am 17 1/2 weeks and still have days of sickness!!! Not as bad, though!!

Gigi, you sound exaclty like me.........I was ready to have 1 more and be done, then we go to doctor and it's TWO!! What a surprise!! My doctor "thinks" he hears both heartbeats every time, but I don't know if he does!!

At 15 weeks, I had gained 10 lbs. I don't think that is too bad considering how huge I look already!! My first baby was 9 lb. 5 oz, so I was huge with him also!! My delivery was easy, so I hoping for another easy delivery!

Good Luck to you and try to enjoy it!!! I find out what I am having Tuesday........I am sooo excited!! I have been counting down the days!!

Thanks for all the replies! Imreddy, thanks for the info on heartbeats. It makes me feel a little better knowing they may do a double-check with an U/S if they're not sure. I have every confidence in my doctor - she's great - I'm just extra anxious this time around.

Easton, I am hoping the m/s will end right around 12 weeks, but I remember that with my 1st it didn't really fade until about 14 weeks. I think this time it peaked around 8 - 9 weeks, so hopefully I am on the tail end of it.

I was also pretty big with my 1st - I gained 40 lbs (and unfortunately still have a few extra hanging on), but my daughter was only 7 lbs 14 oz. That is a perfect weight, but I remember how small she seemed. If the twins are only around 5 lbs each they will seem so tiny! I was hoping to not gain very much weight this time, but now that it's twins I'm just concerned with making sure they get enough nutrition to grow and be healthy. Based on how my 1st went, I'm guessing I will be huge this time!

I hope everyone continues to feel good and be healthy! Tianga, I hope you have some luck with TTC!
