VegetarianMama responded:
Your most fertile days are generally the day or two before you ovulate (mostly because the sperm can survive for upwards of 72 hours and be waiting when the egg is released) and generally the day you ovulate. Everyone's cycle is different, but if you know that your actual ovulation took place a few days before intercourse your chance of having conceived is smaller.

Just to clarify, are you trying or not trying to get pregnant? You started by saying you want another baby but ended by saying you were worried that he hadn't pulled out in time.

You can track your ovulation via a number of calculators available online, but should continue to use condoms if you are not sure of the timing and are trying to not get pregnant.
