    Exciting News for WebMD Members!

We've been busy behind the scenes building new message boards for you. You'll have new and easier ways to find messages, connect with others, and share your stories.

And, this will all be available on your smartphone or other mobile device!

What Do You Need to Do?

The message board you're used to will be closing in the coming weeks. While many of your boards will be making the move to our new home, your posts will not. Want to keep a discussion going? Save posts you want to continue (this includes your member profile story), so that you can re-post them in the new message boards.

Keep an eye here and on your email inbox, we'll be back in touch soon to give you all the information you need!

Tell us a bit more about him. How old is he? How ill was he when diagnosed? What have you been told about what to do and is more eduction in your future?

Let me just say that while diabetes is a lot of work (carb counting, blood sugar testing, calculating dosages) you can live a long, healthy, fun-filled life with diabetes.

Ask all the questions you like. Best of luck.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I work for JDRF and we have some free resources that may be helpful to you. You can get a Bag of Hope from your local chapter: . And a School Toolkit: . Hope these help.

I'm so sorry to hear this. How old is he? I think this diagnosis is harder on parents than on the child.

I was diagnosed at 15 and I'm still going strong without any significant complications. So don't let the various horror stories scare you. People always tell about "my grandpa who .... because of diabetes". Remember most of these stories are about people with type 2 diabetes and diabetes is a lot easier to control and manage these days.

Check out the website Children with Diabetes , it's got a lot of excellent resources and information. And keep asking questions, generally folks with type 1 and parents of kids with type 1 are really helpful.

Any questions we can answer for you?
