Who has insulin resistance?

While I do know one or two T1s who have insulin resisitence, it seems not that common to me from what I have seen. The reason I ask is that I saw a post a while back somewhere else that talked about a "unification theory". Basically this article suggested that T1 and T2 were roughly the same thing. That the autoimmune response was actually triggered by insulin resistence. Frankly, I didn't buy it. I have never had IR and don't believe I had it at age 2 1/2 when I was diagnosed.

What do you folks think?

A couple years ago when I was in SHUTDOWN my basal was about 30 units/day and car-ratio of 1 unit of insulin per 10grams of carb. Now I run at 22 units/day of Lantus (11u AM & 11u PM) and my carb ratio runs from 12:1 to 15:1

Sometimes, I believe doctors misdiagnose things. When I was first diagnosed as a type II, my bg's would stay very high so, my doctor would say that I'm IR and would prescribe MORE med's. When actually, the reason my bg's were going up so high was because I was misdiagnosed and I was a type I needing insulin. I really should have been in the hospital at that time because I was in DKA. That was a horrible time for me!
