Hi. I am a t1 who had foot surgury last Friday for a torn tendon. Unfortunatly, this the 2nd. time I've torn this tendon, so my doc was unable to repair it. To make a long story short, this has been a very long and painful struggle with this foot. My doc says I have to stay off it completely for at least another week, than I'll have a plaster cast. My blood sugars have been bouncing all over since this surgury, from 445 to 82. I think this is at least partly because I've been in a lot of pain. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can better control my sugars while I recover? I've been testing 5 times a day, but it seems like I am chasing the highs rather than controlling them. Any ideas would be deeply appreiciated!!
It is probably a good idea to test more (every couple of hours) and you will better be able to monitor where you are, rather than playing catch up so much. The pain could definitely be sending you high and you may just have to deal with it until things settle.
MRSCORA01: Too young for type 1? My son is now 12 yrs old... he was diagnosed at the age of 8 moths old. I want to applaude you for checking your kids sugar , even for " fun", I do this to my 7 yr old also .I worry w/ her dad and brother being dm type 1 that she will end up w/ it also.Ur being very proactive by keeping an eye on her. I also know that sometimes my 7 yr old who is none dm , that she can spike after meals, I normaly wait 2 hrs and every 2-3 months do a " sugar check" on the whole family, she thinks this is cool, she can be like her dad and big brother.
