Hearing loss because of Type 1 ?

I've been a type 1 for 27 yrs and I need a hearing aid. The audiologist says my particular hearing loss (over 50% loss) is caused by my diabetes. My HMO won't cover an aid for me. Is it possible to have a hearing loss from diabetes? and then doesn't this make it a "medical" need? I'm on the pump and they cover that!

I'm curious...doctors (at least mine) tend to blame every little problem on the diabetes. Maybe your audiolgist can work soemthing out wit the HMO for you?

IF you are, try the VA, they may be able to help you with hearing aids.

I looked it up on WebMD and it said something about blood supply being less. I had to go ahead a bbuy the aid on my own at costco...$2095.00 for two. I only wear them when I go into meet and mingle with people. Sure is nice to hear better again.

I get the OptiMap every year and so far there is no retinopathy, but I still have a hard time seeing inside at night unless all the lights are on.

There are really links between diabetes and hearing loss in women . You should not worry right away if you're suffering from hearing loss since it may be caused by other condition. Check with your doctor right away.
