Ooops...I posted this on the other exchange by mistake. Sorry, I'm still learning.

Those darn ketones....I seem to get them weather I'm high or low. I know I can go into DKA when I high but, what about when I'm low? I hear some people say it's called starvation ketones but, I'm not starving! :) What's your take on this?

If you are on a low carb diet, trace ketones are to be expected. It happens to everyone, diabetic or non-d alike.

ketones can also appear if you are losing weight.....or at least so i've been told.

I don't know about when I'm low, I've never really checked.

But I know that when I'm high I do. Ive woken up the past few days sort of high and my daughter keeps telling me I smell like fruit. hard to explain to her why.

    What kind of fruit???? hahahahaha!!!!

    Sorry, I'm being silly! :-)

I test for ketones every morning. Just a habit I guess. I almost always have ketones when I wake up weather it's only a trace or large amounts and then it goes away during the day.

I don't get keytones very often, at least not these days. Back in 07 after tearing my shoulder, well YEP I got what I call FRUITY. I had a friend ask me about the burnning food, well it was not food, unless one considers ME as

I worked hard to bail myself out of that mild DKA, but ahd to return to doctoring. I ahd been jsut flying on my own w/OTC insulins I ahd been on for decades.

Now I am on MDI basal/bolus and keep a very good a1c in the upper 5s / lower 6s. and have remained FRUITless for a couple years.
