    Retinal tear/detachment and eye floaters

I have a question about floaters and possible tear/detachment of my retina. I have never seen floaters before and then all of a sudden today I saw this line/"rope" of vertical lines out of the corner of my eye. My eye kept wanting to follow them and even continued after I closed my eyes. I tried looking at my eye in the mirror and had a difficult time focusing on it as it appeared foggy and my eye wandering. I rinsed my eyes out and started to cry and eventually it slowly went away. After consulting a few family members one found my symptoms online to be very similar to a retinal tear. My concern is how I should conclude if I need to visit a doctor or not seeing as I don't have any insurance.
