Belly Button Anomaly (not lint)

Nebbo posted:
Something strange is growing from inside my belly bottom, today is the second time I've pulled it out using a tweezer... It's buried pretty deep but a small portion of it protrudes out. The part that protrudes outward is colored black and is very stiff / hard. After pulling it out the inner portion is colored white and is very soft. It is about 1cm in length. There isn't really a scent. I have check google about belly button lint and it does not seem to fit the description. I don't feel any different after pulling it out. I used to have a growing outie when I was a child but surgery made it into an innie. Does anyone have any idea what this is? I fear I am the only one but that can't be.

Probably the best thing to do is make an appointment with your doctor or dermatologist for around the next time you see this odd growth appearing (if you can predict it). If you have signs of infection, it's best to at least call your doctor now to ask if it's a good idea to come in instead of waiting.

It could be any number of things, but only your doctor can tell you what it is and what the best treatment would be.

Interesting question. Thanks for posting it.

I have the SAME issue! It is really kind of gross! I have an innie too but the "hole" isn't a hole at all, its more of a tiny pathway, that this stuff gets trapped in! I tend for forget and then realize that there is some nasty almost waxy hard stuff trapped in there. I have to get it out with tweezers as well. I can't even look at it, i get grossed out, but I am glad it is out! I coulnd't find any other related articles on this either, oh well, at least we are not alone!

I know it's been a couple of months since your post, but I've just stumbled upon it and am so glad I'm not the only one with an issue like yours. If you've seen a doctor about this, could you post what he/she said. It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I am not a doctor, but I bet it is just a skin pore that is excreting natural body oils. It is the same as a white head on your face that turns into a black head, or if you squeeze a black head it comes out with white matter behind the black part. As the air gets to the oils, eventually they turn black. Because it is inside your belly button it is protected and doesn't just wash off. Anyway, that is my theory.

Go to the doctor and get it checked out. Then you will know for certain what is going on. I am only guessing.

Take care, Annette

I have actually had this happen as well. I noticed that this was posted like two years ago but... They're aren't really any other posts about this. It's nice to know I'm not completely alone in this. I have asked my family about it and they just look at me like I'm crazy. When I removed my "blackhead/whitehead" thing from my belly button the first time I thought it was like a bug or something lol. Anyhow, I agree with annette030 and her theory with it just being an overgrown black head.

I was freaking out about this just 30mins ago! I've had the thing in my belly button for years. I finally just went for it and dug it out. It never really hurt. but yes it was just like a super think pimple. Awful. Plays with your head a little cause yes as parts are coming out they look like worn almost but its just the way it formed to your button creases. I got it all out and doctored my button with peroxide and neosporin.

I had this exact same thing stiff part protrudes out. The part that protrudes outward is colored black and is very stiff / hard. After pulling it out the inner portion is colored white and is very soft. It is about 1cm in length. There isn't really a scent.

It grew back after a few years , apparently it's ok to pull out
