I'm 24 years old, and I have a child from a previous marriage. I recently got engaged to a naval officer. We talked about having kids in the future and I going to nursing school to become an RN. The problem is that as soon as he gets back from deployment he wants to have a child with me IMMEDIATELY..he used that word in caps. Now I have my dream and aspiration to finish school so I can make good money for us, but he insist that I don't have to work b/c he makes rediculous amount of money. I already pay half of the bills, and I don't see why he wants me to do a 360 when I feel good about providing what I can..I still look out for my own daughter and some of my expenses. I honestly don't want to give up my dream and nevertheless give up work for the rest of my life to raise children. Not to mention how much more work and stress I would add to myself if I had a baby within the next year. I need advice, I need working moms opinions especially for those who have been single moms and juggle a career and or job, and kids. Could I balance a healthy family and marriage if I work and study?

You need to discuss this with him thouroughly. Tell him exactly how you feel, and what your asperations are for YOUR future. You guys are choosing a life TOGETHER that means that the decisions should be made together. Maybe you can come to a compromise if you want another child just not right away maybe wait until you graduate and work for a few months then you can try to get pregnant. But both of you need to express your feelings and make sure that you are both heard. Remember that you are entering a marriage with this man and a future so you need to ba able to talk the serious stuff or the future will only be harder. Start off honest and straight forward with him. Goood luck!

know its 5 months ago, but what was the final verdict here? Did the discussion happen and did it work? i do wish you good luck, as i agree that you need to look out for yourself, unless you CAN juggle the nursing school while having a baby...which is probably a no, no i presume.
