Is your workplace family-friendly?

I know this board isn't very busy, but I thought I'd post this anyway. I'm wondering how you all feel about your place of work, and whether it is supportive of working parents. Are there policies or practices that help you balance working with parenting? Do you feel you can take a sick day when your child is ill and not have to worry about suffering negative consequences? Does technology (ex. Blackberry, remote access) help you or make things more stressful?

Take the Poll

Is your workplace family-friendly?
  • Yes - It's part of the organization's culture.
  • It depends on who your boss is - some are great, some aren't.
  • Hell to the no.
  • It says it is, but it isn't.
  • Something else (which I'll explain in comments).

They are to a point, you can call in to work if your kids are sick and not get in trouble. But if we have more than like 5 or 6 occurances within 6 months we would get a warning and possibly be fired.

Yeah we get the occurences too. My boss can be understanding so that is cool. My company was rated one of the top in the country for working moms. We are supposed to have a flexible schedule but we dont. We do have a back up daycare though and lots of summer programs at the back up daycare for the kids.
