I didn't want to hijack TRS's post but I read you are having your surgery in Jan. Do you know what they will be doing?

I will be praying for you and your pain med reduction as well as the cigs. You don't want them anyway It'll save you some money for yourself. Deb.
    bj1208 responded:
Hey Debs - yea they will be doing another fusion. On L4-5. So basically they will put a plate 4 screws and 2 rods to connect to my other fusion at L5. They will go in thru the back since I've already had 2 stomach operations already.

Yea its gonna be tough but the pain Med reduction won't be for very long as they are fearful this operation will increase my pains worse than what the first one did.

    Thanks for the prayers.
    trs1960 replied to bj1208's response:
That's basically what they did to me last time. I was fused from T4-T-12 and the came in and fused T10-L3. Since t10-12 was a nice mass of bone they used it to anchor to.

It did help, but it took me a long time to heal...18 months of long. So hang in there and don't get down if things take time. At a year I got depressed and told my doc it was a mistake. He said hang in there, the older you get and the more times they cut on you the longer it takes to recover. Finally at 18 months I felt much better. It was worth it.

Sorry to hijack the post that you posted to not hijack my post, but it's o. Task

Hi TRS you didn't hijack this post so no worries I am concerned about you as well and you are also letting Joy know you been through it as well.

My prayers go out to you as well that your pain saga ends now that you have your new friend. Deb

Joy As soon as you have a date let us know okay? I certainly know about pain - to the point of going to the ER just to get help. More surgery for me as well. Deb
    bj1208 replied to debs_bears's response:
Hey Debs - yes I will let u all know when the surgery is -

Damn I'd love to be able to go to ER once in a while for my pain.

Here's a story to make ya go HMMMMM!! Two years ago I had a problem where I would wake up in the middle of the night, sit cross-legged on bed and fall asleep. I would then proceed to lean towards the right and fall off the bed!!! sometimes my hubby would grab me when he would feel the covers being pulled off but most times he would miss. I would hit hard on the floor and one time I was worried I had broken my wrist trying to catch my fall. So I went to the ER - I was also worried about my hardware hoping I didn't do any damage.

Well when I got to the ER I gave them a list of my meds - 2 nurses and a doctor - each time I told them I was not looking for any pain meds as I was at the limit of what I could take (240mg morphine daily; 120mg oxycodone daily; 20mg tizanadine daily; 3600mg Neurontin daily) and each time they came in to ask questions I would say I'm not here for meds I just want x-rays done of my back and my wrist. Oh I also gave them the name and phone number of my PA and Pain Doc.

So here I sit with 3 stupid ER people (during day - not at night). The doc came in and said they could x-ray my write but not my back since I was under the care of a Pain Specialist!!!! WTF - excuse my language but that is the most stupid thing I've heard.

So I got the x-ray of my wrist - which the only one that actually saw the film was the Radiologist - the ER doc really didn't know by looking at the film if anything was broke. Again the 3 of them came in at separate times and said they couldn't give me anything - again I told them I wasn't looking for pain meds but to see if anything was broke or if hardware was damaged.

UGH - this put a very sour note for me on ER trips.

I went to my pain appt and told the pain doc what happened - he was worried so he scheduled an MRI and CT Scan and sent to my spine doc - he looked at everything and asked me a lot of questions (he was not one that did surgery - will not go back to him). spine doc said since it's been a couple of years since my surgery and I've fused 100% that everything is intact.

Even though I take the max on morphine and oxycodone I cannot take anything else or go up on my dosages. I was taking 15mg oxycodone 6 times a day and it just wasn't enough for the breakthru pains so they changed that to 30mg 4 times a day (same amount daily).

I still have pains of 10 each day and have had that since 3 months post op. My pain doc did try to change my meds by giving me methadone - I started taking that on a Friday and developed hives and went back to doc on Monday and they switched me back to my regular pain meds.

Well that's my story - I just can't go to ER's as there is nothing they can give me so I suffer in pain each day. I am always up between mid-nite and 1am and stay up til I go to bed getting between 3-4 hours sleep each nite - and it does show on my face.

I will let you all know - thanks~~

Wow Joy sorry I missed this until now - I just spent 12 hrs in ER then admitted for severe pain in my chest, arm and right side of neck. Just got home today.

Xrays, Ct-scans, echo, ekg, Vq-scan, heart monitor and oodles of blood work. After being admitted they found out that my myofascial pain syndrome was severely activated by very low potassium. It gave me pains like I was throwing blood clots again.

I got home today to my cell phone ringing my surgeon calling to tell me I will be having surgery early next to remove my rectum, sigmoid colon and a hernia I have surrounding my stoma (ileostomy). They also found on the Xrays that I have more damage to all bones from L3 to S3.

I am beginning to hate the ER's as well.

I will keep praying for pain relief for you and when your surgery is done all pain will be gone soon.
    bj1208 replied to debs_bears's response:
Wow Debs - I had no idea you had so much wrong or actually going on - am so sorry.

It can be frightening to be in ER that long let alone all the tests etc.

You said in ur post you would be having surgery early next _____ but didn't say when. Let us know -

    Prayers to you too hoping everything works out well. {{{HUGS}}}

Hi Joy actually surgery can't be until the 30th she has no surgery openings until then.

They will be taking out all of my rectum, sigmoid colon and doing a parastomal hernia with a mesh repair. It is suppose to be a 4 hr. surgery, but then the last surgery in July she said 2 hrs and it was 4-1/2. So I won't know until then. Hospital stay averages 8 to 10 days depending on when my small intestines wake up. 3 yrs ago it took 21 days.

Hi Joy and others you said you wanted to know when I'm surgery well it will be today at 12:30pm I could use the prayers thank you, Deb.
    trs1960 replied to debs_bears's response:
Prayers on the way. Please update us as soon as possible. To both of you. I don't know what to say that I'm sure you haven't thought of. I just want you to know that you're both in my thoughts and prayers. I was discussing similar topics on another board with friends and I told my friend to remember the prettiest roses are atop big thorn bushes. Some of us see the rose pedals and some can't get past the thorns.

    You two are rose pedals.

    Awwwww Thanks Tim -

Hubby and I go on the 7th to see the surgeon and get everything in order - then my pain doc appt with the PA on the 13th so I would imagine I would have to wait and make appt with the main pain doc so he can dose me down (won't be til in Dec) so it's getting closer. almost wish it were here - my pains are getting worse - been waking up on my back which is horrible as I wake up screaming and crying in pain. hubby gets behind me and helps me up which is excruciating in itself. I don't know why I keep rolling over to my back. guess my left side is getting tired of being only side I can sleep on - no wonder I only get about 3-4 hours slelep. even the recliner I have (we now have 5!!! LOL) we have sofa and loveseat that has recliners on each end and then one separate one - all brand new!!! still can't sleep laying down in them - so I sit up and fall asleep!! LOL

Oh well - surgery time will get here when it gets here.

Thanks Tim, by the way did you know that the thorns on the roses represent the trials and tribulations we go though? That is how I look at roses.

I was a florist and I never took in a rose that had all the thorns removed. To me a rose is not a rose without it's thorns.

Thanks for the prayers it means a lot Deb

Hi Joy I do hear you about wanting the surgery now - it took two trips to the ER before my doctor realized I was in serious trouble.

After her tests she finally concluded I needed surgery.

I wrote the dates down for your appts. and will be praying for you that the surgery came be done sooner than later. Blessings to you, Deb
