    I am new to this site and I had hip replacement surgery. I have only gained about 6 pounds since the surgery. I weighted 212lbs the day before the surgery. I am also only 31 years old. I just need a few tips on how to go about changing my diet, what types of foods should I eat. Is high protein diet better or a low carb better. I need some advice. Thank you!

    My first suggestion is easy. Thoroughly grill your doctor on his/her recommendations for exercise. How much, how long, etc. He may refer you to a physical therapist or, better still, a post hip replacement exercise specialist.

    Second, I'd sit down and make a list of all the unhealthful or binge inducing foods you presently eat. I'd be willing to bet $100, you're capable of listing (within two or thee) almost every single piece of "junk" you eat. Out of that list, circle your Top 5 most destructive foods...foods you love but are causing you the greatest harm. Then, in the next 12 months, one by one, stop eating them...forever.

    That's your "diet"...Just exercise, everyday, and stop eating crap. Don't believe it?

    Of course; that goes without saying...

    But, the only question that matters is, Will you, finally, believe it, now?

    Neither a high protein diet nor a low carb diet is better. Think of everything as a gimmick. Except these gimmicks related to "diet" can be dangerous!

    Eat real food.
    Mostly plants.
    Agree with brunosbud...slowly cut out junk and processed foods. Don't stock them in your house. Replace junk food with healthy alternatives: nuts, seeds, almond milk, and fruits and veggies that you enjoy.
