    better for you holiday treats

    Why not talk about something fun? I'm sure we all have a better for you version of some favorite holiday food or snack.

    My mom used to always mix her egg nog with Sprite or 7-up, because it was too rich for her. It occurred to me that you could do the same thing with lemon-lime Zevia, or another Stevia flavored lemon-lime soda, for the same effect. I refuse to drink low calorie egg nog, but I suppose you could try that too.

    You could add seltzer water to normal punches and juices to stretch them a bit, lower the calories, and add a little sparkle.

    You could substitute in almond flour in cookies for great taste and more nutrition.

    You could have a pretty platter of fruits in holiday colors along with other stuff, it's amazing how welcome the taste of fruits and vegetables is among heavy holiday food.

    Speaking of parties, eat before you go - it'll help you avoid over indulging.

    If you do have something that's really high in fat and sugar, make sure you don't nibble while you're talking or doing something else. Really pay attention to what you are eating and get every last calorie out of it in value. There are a couple of studies showing that people who eat mindfully eat less and enjoy more.

    Some things we traditionally eat can be improved by being careful of the ingredients.
