Endometrial Cancer Could Be Diagnosed Via Pap Smear

A simple pap smear could begin to replace an extremely invasive procedure used in the detection of ovarian and endometrial cancers, scientists from Johns Hopkins have determined according to a study. As a far less invasive alternative than the traditional transvaginal ultrasound used to diagnose ovarian and endometrial cancers, the new research suggests a simple pap smear may be sufficient to make such a diagnosis in the future.

According to the article, blood tests, trans-vaginal ultrasounds and biopsies used by some doctors to detect ovarian and endometrial cancers either aren't accurate or have been deemed by many medical groups as more harmful than helpful to women.
