    Eye Floaters
    mlance321 posted:
Hi, i am a 19 y/o male and wondering if anybody can hopefully help or give me advice on what i am experiencing. In the beginning of this year i had underwent Lasik eye surgery; fast forward three months later (march) i began experiencing multiple strange black dots and strands strangely drifting throughout my field of vision which has distracted me in many ways being at work and school and it stresses me out a lot and still to this day. my question is, did having laser eye surgery have anything to do with it and are these things in my vision a bad thing? Is there anything i can do to get rid of this? literally I've been stressing out so much to the point where my heart is pounding and there is not one day that i am not thinking about the dots and strands in my eyes since march.
    Alan M Kozarsky, MD responded:
Floaters are experienced by many people and are generally annoying but don't represent a dangerous situation. However, when you first (suddenly) notice floaters, especially if associated with flashing lights, you should be examined by an eye doctor to assure that there is not an associated retinal tear or detachment. Surgery for floaters is very rarely needed and the surgery itself carries a risk.
