    Alan M Kozarsky, MD responded:
Let's assume that you have traumatic mydriasis - a condition in which your pupil stays large (dilated) which makes you light sensitive and decreases quality of vision. The pupil can be reduced in size with sutures or if conditions are favorable, artificial iris segments can implanted much the same way as a cataract replacement lens. This type of "fake iris" implantation can be extremely helpful for people with abnormal pupils after trauma. Similarly, corneal transplantation can restore vision for people with a wide range of corneal conditions.

Corneal transplantation and iris repair can be combined.

These are good questions to ask the ophthalmologist who is familiar with your individual condition and has made these recommendations.
