    Sudden onset of heartburn...
    Mavvio posted:
At the end of November I had a sudden onset of heartburn, bloating, discomfort and belching. Very painful and has caused shortness of breath. Have been to my GP and GI, the GI put me on omeprazole DR 20mg to be taken one hour prior to my main meal (dinner). I'm scheduled for a Upper GI, small bowel X-ray. I'm nervous about this X-ray because of the barium after effects if you don't drink enough water to flush it out. When this first started I couldn't eat or drink anything (including water) without it causing the burning sensation in my stomach, belching and bloating. I've missed several days of work because of it. I have also been diagnosed with NAFLD, have asthma and am overweight. I'm still having the bloating, belching and discomfort/pressure (always on my left side) with the omeprazole. There are times when it feels as though all the blood and oxygen are being cut off and my arms tingle lightly. Anyone else feeling the same symptoms and what did you do? Any advice gladly welcome. I'm 58, overweight and a smoker who is addicted to coffee.

Goodness-the "sudden" onset is very scary-I can understand your concern. It's been a few months since your post-are you feeling any better? I don't know if this will help at all but I have a writeup about my own struggles with heartburn. I dealt with it for over 20 years and I wrote about what helped me get past it. I no longer get heartburn now:-)
