    Going off valsartin

Hello everyone. I was on 20 mg Benazapril for about 2 years. I went for a checkup last Thursday and my pressure was slightly elevated. Doctor was going to put me on hctz but changed me to valsartin/hctz. I have been on the medication a total of 5 days and feel absolutely awful. The dry mouth and slight cramping I can deal with but what I can't deal with is the dizziness, nausea, rapid heart rate and basically feeling like I'd pass out with the slightest bit of exertion. I called him this morning and told him my side effects and he told me to stop the medication immediately (already took today's dose) and see him in a week because of vacation. Said the drug should be out of my system in 24 hours. I called in today because I work around rotating equipment (I got so dizzy last night I almost fell). I'm hoping I feel better tomorrow or I'm going to have to go on FMLA until this is straightened out. I'm a little worried about going a week without any bp meds but he said I'll be ok when I voiced concern.

My main question is how long the side effects last.

    Hi there, LacyDelilah.

It seems like you've been through a lot as a result of changing medications. You can read more about valsartan's uses, side effects, precautions, interactions, and overdose information here . Also, be sure to check out the user reviews of valsartan. You might be able to find people who have had similar symptoms who have found a solution. We have over 60 user reviews that you can read here .

Be sure to update your doctor if you are feeling unusual in the intermittent time without blood pressure meds.

Be sure to come back & update us ((hugs))
