    Traveling with IBS
    An_266661 posted:
    Hello Everyone,

This is my first post. I'm not sure when I exactly started having IBS symptoms. I think my first major episode started when I was 12 (I'm 25 now), and then it went away and came back after a horrible 7 day episode of food poisoning. I've currently been suffering from IBS for 7 months. It was very, very bad for the first 5 months or so. I had C for most of the most of the month and then a week long D episode. I went to the doctor a month ago and did all the routine tests. Everything came back negative. I haven't been properly diagnosed yet, but I'm fairly certain the cause of all this is due to IBS. I've recently adopted the low fodmap diet, and started taking the probiotic Align. I've seen a significant improvement. My episodes are shorter, and are much more predictable, I've also been able to reduce the amount of discomfort I feel aside from the occasional heart burn and dull cramps when I eat something bad.

Anyways, I had planned a three month trip to Southeast Asia before this whole IBS stuff occurred. I feel like I'm finally seeing some improvement and there's a part of me that's terrified that I'll get another bad case of food poisoning which will cause my IBS to Flare up or maybe will be even worse than before. If you have any travel tips please let me know. I do plan on continuing my probiotics on the trip, I've bought a ton of Imodium, and I'm carrying peppermint tea with me everywhere I go. Any advice would be appreciated.
