    Essay on migraines
    mgpiety posted:
I'm a philosophy professor and essayist. I have suffered from migraines for many years. I'm familiar with Oliver Sacks' book on migraines, but I could not, unfortunately, identify with many of the cases he described. I have wanted to write about my own experiences with migraines for a long time. I finally did that recently. The URL for the essay is above.

I was just telling a friend recently how "inside myself" I become when stricken with a migraine. Can't focus on anything but the pain, because it is so all-consuming. I'm grateful to you for taking the time to express yourself and describe just how devastating migraine is to those who suffer.
After filling out the typical medical questionnaire, my neurologist noted that I said "No" to the question about migraine interfering with my quality of life. He asked me to clarify. My response? That is the quality of my life. Losing days, writhing in agony with the pain, random thoughts, strange "dreams", slurred speech, shuffling gait, and the worst: Friends and family thinking that you're just looking for a "day off".
Thank you, again for your story.
