M\y fiance woke up this morning to find his whole right side of his jaw was swollen. it first started out with slight coming and going of numbness in the lip, Burning jawline and lower lip, sever swelling (overnight), Numbness, and pain to the touch. what do you think this was caused by. he literally had the swelling go from 0 at 9pm to the morning where he found his jaw, chin, and cheek were so swollen it protrudes at least 2 inches.

    Hi Kybarra,

It's now the next day and I hope your fiance is doing better and/or he's sought direct medical attention to determine what is going on.

An online message board isn't the best way to get a quick answer though I'm sure one of our experts will be looking in and responding soon.

    Dear kybarra7385:

You MUST take your fiance to the dentist or an emergency room right away.

It is impossible for me, or anyone else, to give you a diagnosis over the internet without a physical examination and X-rays.

This could be anything, from a dental origin, such as an abscess, to a swelling of the sublingual gland, to other more rare things.

Please go and see a dentist for a proper diagnosis.

    Best of luck,
    Dr. Zev Kaufman
