    Kidney Transplant Outside US
    debbiebren posted:
Does anyone have any information on needing a kidney transplant when you have been traveling and therefore are not in the US and not healthy enough to travel to the US for a transplant. My friend is in Ireland and on the transplant list in that area. Is it harder to get a transplant there? Do you have any recommendations?
    MrsCora01 responded:
I'm not sure it would be feasible to live in Ireland and be on the list in the US. It would simply take too long to get there. Some folks will multi list as there may be several transplant centers all within a reasonable travel distance. Could your friend be listed in England? Is there cooperation between the two as far as the health care systems go? Otherwise I'm afraid your friend will just have to wait like everyone else.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

    debbiebren replied to MrsCora01's response:
My friend was in Ireland on business when he got sick and cannot fly back to US due to possible complications in flight. That is why he is on the transplant list in Ireland.
    MrsCora01 replied to debbiebren's response:
Do you mean he is trapped there? I was able to travel while on dialysis. I took a 5 hour flight after going on dialysis in a city 4 time zones away from home. I simply travelled between treatments. It sounds kind of strange.

    debbiebren replied to MrsCora01's response:
Actually since I last posted he had a transplant six weeks ago. He was doing wonderful for two weeks after the transplant and then developed a complication which has now put him on a respirator because of not being able to breath. They cannot figure out what is wrong. He had the transplant in Ireland.
