My daughter was a 24 wk preemie she was born august of 08. She is now almost two, she went to the hospital march of 09 for influenza and a blockage in her intestines. During this time she needed emergency surgery. Due to being sick and having surgery she went majorly downhill, got a blood infection and needed something called ECMO which is when they put a catheter in your jugular and put oxygen in your blood because no ventilator was strong enough. During this time she was so critical and her lungs got so bad she got BPD. Now I am trying to find out symptoms of BPD? How to prevent BPD? and Would it make her go downhill and turn blue and be on the verge of death in seconds? Is anyone experienced with this?? She is trach/vent, on all the meds for it, and has 24 hr nursing. But what else can i do to prevent it?

Hello :) The article you posted is very technical in nature, and is probably geared towards physicians or other medical professional. I found this article, which may be more useful:

I hope that helps. I don't really have any experience with BPD, but hopefully someone else on this board can help. Best wishes and prayers for your LO.
