    Impending Labor?? Warning TMI

Ok, So this is really gross, but since this is a medical website, I suppose it doesn't matter. Well I'm almost 39 weeks, and he's in position. I have never been a "regular" person.. Regular for me was a bowel movement every 3-5 days. Well the past 3 or 4 days, I have had several soft movements, and today it was like my entire small intestine emptied! I know that's really gross, but it's the only way I can describe it. I have seen only 1 or 2 websites claiming this as a sign of impending labor, so I figured I would ask here if anyone has had this as a sign of impending labor, and if so, how soon did labor start afterwards? Thanks, and sorry it's so gross!

It's not necessarily a sign of pending labor, although you are getting very close to your date. The irregular bowel movement is probably according to how the baby is positioned.

Labor could be imminent because the baby drops and with the drop, could cause crowding near your intestines.

I went into labor at 9:30pm with DS got to the hospital and by 10:30 it was like as you said my entire small intestine was being emptied. I did not have that with DD but with DS I had that big time I then had him at 12:50pm. I have my kids pretty fast though. I have read several places that it's your body preparing for birth. That can happen days before or hours before labor. Hope that helps. Have you noticed if you have lost your mucous plug yet?

This is a DEFINITE sign of impending labor. Your body has to "empty" itself out first so that you don't have an oops whilst in labor because the baby presses on your anus during active labor and if there's something stored in there, well I'm afraid it comes out...:-( Sorry now I'm sounding gross!

Stay relaxed and just keep monitoring your symptoms. This is an exciting time!

GL and all the best to you and the baby!
