    It's been suggested that we leave a space between the start of a post and the triggering part.

    Write something innocuous in the first line. then leave some spaces between in and the subject matter. this should take care of accidentally triggering someone.

    Hello.[br>Whenever I'm very upset about something or highly pressured, I hit my head as hard as I could because I just want to stop thinking. I don't like my thoughts coming in so automatically, like a reflex, I hit my head with my palm or fist or sometimes on the wall or on anything hard. I'm thinking that if my head hurts so much, I won't be able to think of anything. But I don't feel any pain no matter how hard I hit it. Then afterwards, I cry and cry. Not because of the pain but because of my thoughts, memories etc.. I can cry for an hour! Nonstop.[br>[br>What's going on with me?     therapy would be a big help. you need to find out why you react that way and then learn better coping skills.

    Reaching out here was brave, and a good first step. Professional help would be able to help you answer why you react this way. Have you tried maybe writing it down, crumbling it, and throwing it away? May seem silly, but it has helped a bit for me before. I've been in therapy for only a couple years and it has been a big help. Hope you find the answers you seek.

    I don't know the answer, but you are not alone. I found out that my husband has been doing this for years when he gets upset, specifically when we argue or if there is a situation that he feels he can't "fix". He hits himself so hard that he leaves dark marks on his face and sometimes cuts his face with his ring. I'm not sure what it stems from, I have asked him about his childhood, if he was ever mentally or physically abused, and he says no. He says that hitting himself helps take the mental pain away. He also suffers from panic attacks. Lack of insurance, funds has prevented him from getting the help he needs, but soon we will be getting some good insurance and I am going to try and get him in somewhere that can help him cope better with these stressors. Please consider seeing a professional, as I have my own issues and if you commit to it, the combo of therapy and meds can change your life when you get the right ones for you.

    I'd really look for professional help! I'm so sorry to hear about your mental health struggles—I know it's extremely difficult. When I was coping with depression, I went to a doctor first. An easy way to do this is through HealthTap and I consulted a doctor online through video conference and it was really nice because they can prescribe you medication! Goodluck, hang in there.
